The Story
Set a little way into the future, in 2031, Requiem for Tomorrow takes place in a world where the divide between rich and poor has become insurmountable. While the rich - the Gaters - live a privileged existence inside gated communities, the poor - the Urbans - are left to survive as best they can on the outside. But there are those who are aiming to change this - peacefully if they can, by force if not.Set against this backdrop of social disparity and hardship there is a story of hope with a central hero who is prepared to sacrifice everything for love, truth and freedom. This is the story of a people's struggle for equality and justice… and one man's quest for love and redemption.
The Background
Gated communities are even now being actively encouraged as a means of crime prevention - there are over 1000 such communities in England alone, while the richest sectors of society are hiring private security firms instead of relying on the police for protection. What if this trend continues? What if society becomes more and more afraid of crime and terrorist threats, more and more security conscious? Requiem for Tomorrow seeks to answer these questions with an original and relevant examination of a future which, if we are not careful, could become all too real…
The Music & Dance
The music is a mixture of heavily percussive, rhythmic dance music, punctuated by gospel style requiems, beautiful ballads and love duets, reaching a peak with an uplifting song of hope as the finale. The style of dance is based on contemporary dance but is being given a new twist by choreographer Derya Donaldson. Elements of ballet, street and African dance combine to create an exciting new style.
